One President and His Famous Mediums. It was not unknown that the presidential administration of Ronald Reagan relied heavily on the advice of astrologers and famous mediums. First Lady Nancy Reagan was in daily contact with her astrologer Joan Quigley. In fact, so much so that Joan, who planned all White House travel and press conferences, came to be known as the Reagan's in-house astrologer and psychic. But it didn't all start in the White House. Though the beginnings of the Reagan's relationship with famous mediums started as early as his and Nancy's Hollywood years, it wasn't until his California governorship that the first wave of attention started. That was the era when Jeanne Dixon had captivated America.

With the signing of a piece of legislation, allowing licensed astrologers the ability to practice their trade as an honorable profession, rather than as mere "fortune tellers," Reagan gave a new significance to astrologers, psychics, and famous mediums. It was also about this time that the Reagan's became aware of a famous medium by the name of Jeanne Dixon.

Having gained prominence predicting the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Jeanne Dixon was one of the first psychic advisers to both Nancy Reagan and the president. The Reagan's lost no time in ingratiating themselves to her after Dixon's prediction of not only his rise to Governor, but also of his further assent to the presidency of the United States. However, with Dixon's prediction of Reagan's loss of his first presidential campaign in 1976, which turned out to be true, they became disillusioned with her and made their alliance with Joan Quigley. (Although she "crossed over" in 1997, Jeanne Dixon has continued to remain one of the most famous psychics of modern times).

Joan Quigley first made the acquaintance of Nancy, through an introduction by Merv Griffin, as early as the 1970's. But it was Quigley's prediction of a victory for Reagan in the 1980 presidential campaign that brought the astrologer and the new First Couple in alliance again. Quigley was consulted on numerous official occasions, including one treaty between America and the Soviet Union addressing the elimination of nuclear missiles on 8 December 1987. But, it was an earlier prediction, that of Reagan's near assassination on 30 March 1981, which cemented the relationship between Quigley and the White House.

Throughout history presidents have consulted famous psychics. But, it can surely be said that none have made the practice as fashionable as the Reagan's themselves.
